Early Years Practice Co. provides consulting, practical resources and professional learning for Early Learning Centres, Kindergartens and OSHC.
We work with Approved Providers, Nominated Supervisors, operations leaders, Educational Leaders and educators to strengthen the systems, leadership and everyday practices that influence safety, compliance and quality.
Whether you are responding to a concern, preparing for Assessment and Rating, reviewing an established system or building educator capability, we help turn expectations into actions your team can understand, implement and maintain.
CONSULTING | TEMPLATES | COMPLIANCE & PRACTICE GUIDANCE
We turn complex compliance into clear, practical action.
Clear guidance should make the work easier to understand.
Most service challenges are not caused by people not caring or not trying. They occur when important expectations are spread across legislation, policies, procedures, calendars, checklists, meeting notes and individual knowledge.
A policy may be current while practice remains inconsistent. A checklist may be completed without anyone following up what was identified. A Quality Improvement Plan may contain useful goals but have little influence on everyday decisions. Educators may be committed to children but still lack clear guidance about what quality practice should look like.
The answer is not always another form, folder or layer of documentation.
Services need clear points of truth: what must happen, why it matters, who is responsible, what good practice looks like, how it will be checked and what happens when something needs attention.
Early Years Practice Co. brings these pieces together so compliance, operations, leadership and educator practice work as one connected system.
Practical support shaped around your service
Different challenges require different kinds of support. You may need independent advice for a specific issue, a practical resource your team can begin using immediately, or professional learning that strengthens shared understanding.
Early Years Practice Co. provides three clear ways to access support.
Consulting
Receive tailored support for a particular service concern, improvement priority or operational challenge.
Consulting can include policy and procedure reviews, compliance response, Quality Improvement Plan development, Assessment and Rating preparation, operational systems, leadership accountability, programming and educator practice.
The work is scoped around your service rather than applying a standard solution to every situation.
Resources
Access practical templates, implementation tools, review documents and guides designed around the real work of education and care services.
Resources are developed to help leaders and educators understand what is required, put it into practice and follow it up. They include instructions, prompts and examples wherever these will make implementation clearer.
Training
Build leader and educator knowledge through focused webinars, online programs and team professional learning.
Training moves beyond presenting information. Participants are guided to reflect on their current practice, understand what quality looks like, apply the learning and identify what needs to happen next.
Support across the work that shapes service quality
Safety, compliance, leadership, operations and educator practice do not operate separately. A change in one area usually affects several others.
Our support considers the complete pathway from the requirement through to everyday practice, service processes, documentation, evidence and follow-up.
-
Policy review tools, implementation checklists, compliance calendars and practical support to strengthen systems.Policies should do more than meet a review date. They should clearly reflect current requirements, match the service’s operations and help people make consistent decisions.
Support may include policy and procedure reviews, implementation planning, compliance health checks, breach response, staff knowledge checks, supporting-document reviews and clearer systems for communicating changes.
-
Strong services need more than committed leaders. They need clear responsibilities, practical operating rhythms, reliable oversight and agreed pathways for following up concerns.
Support can strengthen leadership accountability, service calendars, meeting systems, action planning, Quality Improvement Plans, internal reviews and preparation for Assessment and Rating.
-
Approved learning frameworks should be visible in the way educators organise environments, engage with children, guide learning, respond to behaviour, manage routines and reflect on their decisions.
Support helps services move beyond framework labels and activity-led programming to clearer intentional practice, meaningful interactions, responsive environments, critical reflection and stronger assessment and planning.
How we work
-
We begin with the service context, current concern, existing systems and intended outcome. This helps identify what is already working and where uncertainty or a breakdown is occurring.
-
We clarify the relevant expectations, responsibilities, risks and priorities. This creates a shared understanding of what needs attention before solutions are developed.
-
Practical actions, resources, processes or professional learning are developed around the agreed need. The focus remains on what leaders and educators can realistically implement.
-
Where included in the scope, we support implementation, communication and review. The aim is not simply to complete an action but to help the improvement become part of normal service operations.

Professional learning designed to change what happens next
Professional learning should leave participants with more than information. They should understand why the topic matters, recognise what effective practice looks like and know how to apply the learning in their role.
Early Years Practice Co. training is designed for Approved Providers, Nominated Supervisors, service leaders, Educational Leaders and educators. Programs connect sector requirements with practical examples, reflection, service application and follow-up.
Training will be available through focused webinars, structured online programs and tailored team sessions.
Practical thinking for education and care leaders
Insights provides clear, thoughtful articles for people responsible for leading safety, compliance, quality and practice.
Articles examine common sector challenges, break down what may be occurring beneath the surface and provide practical questions leaders can use within their services.
Topics include compliance, leadership, Quality Improvement Plans, Assessment and Rating, child safety, operations, educator practice, programming and professional learning.
Built from real sector experience
Early Years Practice Co. was founded by Dan McErlean, whose experience spans regulatory oversight, multi-service operations, service leadership, vocational education and training, quality improvement and direct support to education and care services.
Working across different parts of the sector has provided Dan with an understanding of both sides of the work: what legislation, regulation and the National Quality Standard expect, and what it takes to make those expectations work within a busy service.
This whole-of-service perspective allows Early Years Practice Co. to look beyond an isolated document or issue. The work considers how requirements connect with leadership decisions, educator knowledge, daily processes, documentation and follow-up.
The result is guidance that is technically sound, operationally realistic and focused on what people can implement.
